The Artist, Linda Head

Je sculpte, donc je suis.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My interest in people and empathy for them first led me to a career in nursing.  Then 30 years ago I was exposed to the art and craft of clay sculpture, and was immediately drawn to it.  I soon discovered that my sympathy with people could be translated to the sculptures I created.  It is my desire to explore a thought, an idea, an emotion in my work.  Situations and people in my life are often the inspiration for my sculptures.  Other times, just moving the clay around will lead to an idea to be developed.  Even an accident can offer unexpected direction to the sculpture.  For me, every piece is a new and exciting learning experience.

I have a special wooden tool that was given to me by a great artist, sculptor, teacher and friend, Angelo Caravaglia. It is invaluable to me in every piece I sculpt.
